The latest results from the courts around Kent

Serial shoplifters and a razor thief are among those to face justice in Kent's magistrates' courts in the latest round-up.


Four time shoplifter charged

Hayden Day, of Querns Road, Canterbury, stole DVDs worth £370 from a supermarket in Park Farm Road, Folkestone, and DVDs worth an unknown amount from the same supermarket on a second occasion.

On two separate days, the 19-year-old stole DVDs worth £27 from a supermarket in Simone Weil Avenue, Ashford, a sandwich worth £2.50 from a shop in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

He then failed to turn up to court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced Day to 90 days in prison, suspended for a year and a half and gave him a 90-day curfew to remain at home between 7pm and 7am daily until March 18 2017.

He must also pay £372 compensation.

Ashford woman charged for multiple shoplifting offences

Lena Brown, of St Stephen’s Walk, Ashford, stole whiskey worth £21 from a supermarket in Queen Street, Ramsgate and on a separate occasion she stole a bottle of rum worth £18 from the same supermarket.

On different days, the 27-year-old also stole gift sets worth £48 from a shop in High Street, Ramsgate and DVDs worth £113.89 from another shop in High Street, Ramsgate. She also assaulted a police officer.

Magistrates sentenced Brown to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and gave her a 28-day curfew to remain at home between 9pm and 6am daily until January 16 2017. She must also pay £100 compensation.

Three year ban for Chartham man

Max Coyle, of Summer Piece Grove, failed to give a breath test for analysis in Canterbury.

Magistrates banned the 33-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £350 fine, £85 costs and a £35 victim surcharge.

Teen drug supplier handed 150 hours of unpaid work

Callum Eagleson, of Coleman Crescent, Ramsgate, drove a Peugeot Speedfight in Northdown Road, Margate, without a licence and with no insurance.

He also had 15.2g of cannabis on him, with the intent to supply it.

Magistrates ordered the 18-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay a £100 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Ban and fine handed to drink driver

Aimee Barrow, of Cavell Square, Deal, drove a Mini One on the A2, Dover, and gave a breath test of 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 24-year-old from driving for a year and a half. She must also pay a £200 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

400 hours of unpaid work for Folkestone thief

Curtis Willard, of Harbour Way, drove a Ford Fiesta in Hythe Road, Ashford, while disqualified and with no insurance.

He also stole two DVD boxsets worth £115 from a shop in Hythe Road, Ashford.

Magistrates ordered the 23-year-old to carry out 400 hours of unpaid work in the next year and banned him from driving for six months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Aftershave thief sentenced

Homeless Craig Dunn stole an aftershave gift set worth £38 from a shop in Biggin Street, Dover.

Magistrates sentenced the 24-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £38 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver won't be driving for nearly two years

Vincent Hemerey, of James Street, Folkestone, drove a Peugeot 307 in Dover Road, Folkestone, and gave a breath test of 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 33-year-old from driving for a year and 10 months. He must also pay a £392 fine, £85 costs and a £39 victim surcharge.

Folkestone man sentenced for failed shoplifting attempt

Joao Ferreira, of Sandgate Road, Folkestone, stole chocolates worth £40 and attempted to steal steaks worth £13.05 from a shop in Bouverie Road West, Folkestone.

Magistrates sentenced the 54-year-old to six weeks in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £40 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Homeless woman behind bars

Homeless Chelsea Dunn assaulted a police officer at an address in Westbury Road, Dover.

Magistrates sentenced the 22-year-old to 10 days in prison. She must also pay £100 compensation.

Violent Broadstairs man handed unpaid work

John Arama, of Albion Road, Broadstairs, used unlawful violence in High Street, Broadstairs.

Magistrates ordered the 26-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £150 compensation and £85 costs.

Driving offender handed fine and unpaid work

Rhys Smith, of Wife of Bath Hill, Canterbury, drove a Ford Focus in Rheims Way, Canterbury, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates ordered the 22-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year and banned him from driving for six months. He must also pay a £450 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

200 hours of unpaid work for Broadstiars man

Vlad Botnaru, of Albion Street, used unlawful violence in High Street, Broadstairs.

Magistrates ordered the 29-year-old to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £150 compensation and £85 costs.

Criminals face justice in Kent's courts

Ramsgate man must pay more than £500

Daniel Brearley, of Margate Road, Ramsgate, drove a Mini Cooper in College Road, Margate, and gave a breath test of 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He also had a knuckle duster on him.

Magistrates ordered the 24-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year and banned him from driving for a year. He must also pay a £300 fine, £170 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Fragrance thief sentenced

Paul Raworth, of Squires Way, Dover, stole a heated hairbrush worth £79 from a shop in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

On two separate occasions at another shop in Sandgate Road he stole leather bags and fragrances worth £602, scarves worth £60 and assaulted a man.

Magistrates sentenced the 48-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £100 compensation and £85 costs.

A week in prison for Ramsgate man

Christian Hinkley, of King Street, damaged a wooden chair worth £30 at an address in King Street and assaulted a police officer in Alma Place, Ramsgate.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to seven days in prison. He must also pay £50 compensation.

Canterbury drink driver banned

James Uglow, of St Peter’s Place, drove a Citroen C4 in Sturry Road, Canterbury, and gave a breath test of 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 36-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £110 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Mass offender in prison for nine months

Harry Holden pleaded guilty to ten counts of theft from a motor vehicle, three counts of fraud by false representation and two counts of criminal damage.

Included in the thefts were sunglasses, a jacket, a purse, a mobile phone and a handbag.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to nine months in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink driver more than three times the limit sentenced

Dallas Gordon of Nevill Road, Snodland, drove a Vauxhall Astra in London Road, Larkfield, and gave a breath test of 116 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 30-year-old from driving for two years and four months and gave him a two-month curfew to remain at an address in Perch Close, Larkfield, between 8pm and 4.30am daily until February 19 2017.

He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Three year ban for drink driver

Mitchell Wells, of Ashburnham Road, Tonbridge, drove a Seat Altea in London Road, Hildenborough, and gave a breath test of 47 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 30-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

Driving ban for Kemsing woman

Kelly Maloney, of Fairfield Close, failed to give a breath test for analysis and assaulted a police officer in Lower Green Road, Tunbridge Wells.

She also caused £80 worth of damage to a police cell in Tonbridge.

Magistrates banned the 41-year-old from driving for two and a half years. She must also pay £130 compensation, 85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Serial shoplifter in jail

Robert Barrow, of Hackfield, Ashford, stole a charity pot worth £20 from a supermarket in Wrotham Road, Borough Green.

The 45-year-old also he stole beer, coffee and other items worth an unknown amount from a shop in Twisden Road, East Malling and on another day he stole a charity pot worth £50 from a pub in Fairmeadow, Maidstone.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Tonbridge Police Station without reasonable excuse.

Barrow also stole meat worth an unknown amount from a shop in High Street, Snodland, and meat steaks worth an unknown amount from a service station in London Road, Larkfield.

Magistrates sentenced Barrow to 180 days in prison. He must also pay £70 compensation.

Herne Bay assaulter behind bars

Kayley Skelton, of Sussex Close, Herne Bay, assaulted three police officers and a person assisting a police officer at a council building in King Street, Maidstone.

On another day, she assaulted a police officer in the same council building.

Later the same month, she damaged a shop window worth £450 at a service station in Sutton Road, Maidstone.

The 29-year-old also assaulted two police officers at an address in Sutton Road, Maidstone.

Magistrates sentenced Skelton to 30 days in prison.

Driver almost double the limit banned and fined

Taylor Kane, of Bower Mount Road, Maidstone, drove a Mini in Earl Street, Maidstone, and gave a urine test of 205 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine. The legal limit is 107 milligrammes.

Magistrates banned the 25-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £270 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Maidstone woman banned and handed fine

Frances Smith, of Pope Street, failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis in Maidstone.

Magistrates banned the 36-year-old from driving for a year and a half. She must also pay a £250 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

160 hours of unpaid work for Maidstone teen

Mike Divuilu, of Church Street, assaulted a man in Bradford Street, Tonbridge.

On another day, the 18-year-old he had a quantity of cannabis on him in Avebury Avenue, Tonbridge, with the intent to supply it.

Magistrates ordered Divuilu to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work in the next year. He must also pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Nearly a year in prison for homeless woman

Claire Smith pleaded guilty to nine counts of shoplifting.

The homeless 27-year-old stole items including alcohol, meat and razors.

Aftershave thief in prison

Olegs Smirnovs, of Coombe Road, Maidstone, stole aftershave gift sets worth £202.50 from a shop in The Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham.

Magistrate sentenced the 57-year-old to 126 days in prison.

Chatham man banned and fined

Parmar Singh, of Glencoe Road, drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Bentley Street, Gravesend, and gave a breath test of 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 34-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £45 victim surcharge.

Driving ban for Gravesend man

Gutis Simkevicius, of Southfields Green, failed to give a breath test for analysis in New Road, Gravesend.

Magistrates banned the 27-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £600 fine, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

More than 200 days in prison for wine thief

Jack Harbour, of Broom Road, Sittingbourne, stole a bottle of wine worth £5.49 and used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a woman at a shop in Church Road, Sittingbourne.

The 27-year-old then failed to surrender to bail at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates sentenced Harbour to 236 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Police assaulter sentenced

Nicholas Noble, of High Street, Chatham, assaulted a police officer at a police station in Purser Way, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 36-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for a year. He must also pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Rochester drink driver banned for more than a year

Mimartynas Misevicius, of Copperfield Road, drove a Vauxhall Corsa in Hill Road, Rochester, and gave a breath test of 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 20-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Dodgy driver banned

Adam Pearcey, of Preston Way, Gillingham, drove a Fiat Punto in High Street, Chatham, without care and attention and gave a breath test of 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 25-year-old from driving for a year and eight months. He must also pay a £600 fine, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Year and a half ban for drink driver

Matthew Parsons, of Vale Drive, Chatham, drove a Daewoo Nubira in Maidstone Road, Chatham, and gave a breath test of 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Magistrates banned the 40-year-old from driving for a year and a half. He must also pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

Knife possessor jailed

Homeless Jonathon Martin had a kitchen knife in High Street, Chatham.

Magistrates sentenced the 38-year-old to 10 days in prison. He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Ban and curfew for Chatham driving offender

Daniel Farren, of Bryant Street, drove a VW Polo in New Road, Rochester, without a licence.

He also failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 28 days in prison, suspended for a year, banned him from driving for a year and a half and gave him a three-month curfew to remain at an address in Chaucer Road, Gillingham, between 7pm and 7am daily until March 19 2017.

He must also pay a £100 fine, £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Triple shoplifter sentenced

Terence Richards, of Victoria Street, Rochester, stole a gift set worth £40 from a shop in Thamesgate Shopping Centre, Gravesend.

On two separate occasions he stole a gift set worth £40 from the same shop.

Magistrates sentenced the 37-year-old to 40 days in prison. He must also pay £80 compensation.

Man in prison for assault

Mark Toulson, of Gordon Road, Chatham, assaulted a man and a woman at an address in Gordon Road.

Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old to 90 days in prison. He must also pay a £50 fine and a £115 victim surcharge.

150 hours of unpaid work for Chatham man

Daniel Grant, of King George Road, drove a BMW 330 in Haig Avenue, Rochester, while disqualified and with no insurance.

Magistrates ordered the 31-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the next year and banned him from driving for six months.

He must also pay a £300 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Prison for Dartford man

Lee Hirst, of London Road, Dartford, sent a grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message.

Magistrates sentenced the 28-year-old to 63 days in prison. He must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Wine thief sentenced

Homeless Mark Taylor, broke into an Arts Centre in Military Road, Chatham, and stole three bottles of wine worth £150.

Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for two years. He must also pay £150 compensation.

Homeless alcohol shoplifter sentenced

Homeless Bernadette Gillan, stole two bottles of alcohol worth £12 from a supermarket in High Street, Gillingham.

Magistrates sentenced the 52-year-old to 90 days in prison, suspended for a year. She must also pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Three year ban for New Ash Green woman

Samantha Roulston, of Farm Holt, drove a Vauxhall Zafira in Green Street Green Road, Dartford, without a test certificate and with no insurance.

She was drunk in public in charge of a child who was under seven years old and also failed to give a breath test.

Magistrates sentenced 41-year-old to 120 days in prison, suspended for a year and a half, and banned her from driving for three years. She must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

280 hours of unpaid work for Chatham man

Steven Cartwright, of Natal Road, had a knife and a friction lock asp in Gas House Lane, Rochester.

Magistrates sentenced the 30-year-old to 60 days in prison, suspended for a year, and ordered him to carry out 280 hours of unpaid work in the next year.

He must also pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Driving offender banned

Paul Warrier, of Burma Crescent, Canterbury, drove a Ford Focus in Corporation Street, Rochester, with a licence, with no insurance and without a test certificate.

He also failed to stop the vehicle after a road accident.

Magistrates banned 22-year-old from driving for two years. He must also pay a £257 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Sittingbourne man banned for three years

Jessie Gibson, of Glebe Lane, drove a Vauxhall Vectra in Elm Grove, Sittingbourne, without a licence and with no insurance.

He also failed to give a blood test for analysis.

He then failed to surrender to bail at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Court without reasonable excuse.

Magistrates banned the 25-year-old from driving for three years. He must also pay a £160 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
