At around 1.50pm, six emergency vehicles were seen by the grass verge just off the ring road and paramedics were seen treating someone by the city wall.

A woman who was driving her car and waiting in traffic said she noticed a person fall from the historic wall.

“It was quite odd,” she said. “It was as if someone had thrown a sack down – there was no waving about or anything.

“They looked to have fallen backwards and smacked onto the ground. It would have been from a sitting position.

“I pulled over, but another lady and a man got out in front of us. I heard her say ‘stay where you are’ to them.
