LANGHAM: expected to enter a plea when he next appears in court

COMIC actor Chris Langham, who faces 15 charges of making indecent images of children, has had his case adjourned for the second time by a court.

Langham, 57, of Whistlers, Golford, Cranbrook, who did not attend the hearing today at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court, was charged by Kent Police under the Operation Ore crackdown on internet crimes.

In his absence, the magistrates agreed to a request for the adjournment by the Crown Prosecution Service while the police investigation continues.

The father-of-five is the star of the award-winning BBC comedy The Thick Of It and was awarded a BAFTA for his performance in another BBC comedy, Help.

At the first hearing in May, the court was told that the images relating to the charges were ranked between levels one and five. Level five is the highest degree of obscenity identified under the law.

Making an indecent photograph of a child is defined as downloading or otherwise creating a photograph or other image of a minor aged up to 18. It carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.

Langham was given an extension to his unconditional bail and must return to the court on Wednesday, July 26, when he is expected to enter a plea.
