At 15 Spencer Aston’s ambition was to go to university and eventually become a pilot.

He led an active life playing rugby and the drums.

Then, in March 2004, he was involved in a car accident that left one teenager dead, and Spencer and a fellow student seriously injured.

The driver of the car was a student at The Judd School, Tonbridge, where Spencer was also a pupil.

Although Spencer survived, he suffered a brain injury, which, while he may look OK, has meant his whole life has changed.

Spencer said: “Many of my old goals and achievements that I was heading for are not possible anymore.

“So, for instance, I used to be drummer and I’ve had to give that up. I used to be to be a rugby player and I’ve had to give that up.”

At home in Hildenborough Spencer relies on the help of his family, and also carers to help him get through each day.

Spencer takes part in Licence to Kill, a hard-hitting theatre and film production at aimed year 12 and 13 students, who are around the same age the driver of the car that Spencer was in when the accident took place was.

Spencer said: ”Just realise the reason that you are being told this is because it can happen to you. It’s not just someone else you read about in the paper, now I can’t drive.”
