AN INQUEST has been opened on a 20-year-old soldier shot dead at Lydd, near Hythe.

Ian Mark Wright, was born in Bristol and served with the 1st Batallion of the Grenadier Guards at Aldershot.

Coroner's officer Dave Lewis said there was an incident at Lydd Camp on Friday, November 24, in which Mr Wright died. Police were called and the soldier was pronounced dead at 7.10am by a paramedic.

A post mortem examination that day revealed he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
