A large black cat bigger than a labrador is reported to be prowling the countryside south of Canterbury.

Carol Arter, who lives in Kingston, says the animal has been spotted five times since February.

She says there have been sightings in Kingston, Barham, Ilden and Denton.

Mrs Arter says she was out in fields close to her house with her jack russells when one of them became aware of the cat.

“The dog usually runs off ahead, but this time it stopped dead and came back to me, which is very unusual,” Mrs Arter said.

“We could see this large cat some yards away. It seemed to be bigger than a labrador, but it was slinking down like a cat.

“Quite a few people have seen it round here recently.”
