A brother of double killer Brett Clifton has been jailed for five years for kidnap, threats to kill and false imprisonment.

Floyd Clifton was branded as a risk of causing further serious harm in future.

But "with a considerable degree of hesitation", a judge decided against locking up the 24-year-old thug indefinitely.

Judge Jeremy Gold QC told Clifton, of Beckett Street, Faversham, he could expect to be back in the community within two years.

He will then be on licence for the remainder of the sentence, plus a further two years.

"It may not seem a very merciful sentence to you," said the judge. "I don't know. It may be you regard it as harsh.

"Let me make it clear to you. You are young enough to make something of your life and put your past behind you.

"You will have intensive training, I hope, while in custody and come to terms with the difficulties you obviously have. When released, you will be on licence for a long time."

Clifton was convicted in May of the charges. He denied the offences - described by the judge as bizarre - claiming they simply did not happen.

He had previously been jailed for other violent crimes, including a terrifying robbery while wearing a devil mask.

Maidstone Crown Court heard how Clifton went to the Faversham home of shop owner Jason Waldron late at night on June 12 last year and threatened to shoot him and his girlfriend Tracey West.

Mr Waldron, who lost an arm in an industrial accident, was then kidnapped by Clifton, whom he described as "pure evil".

In a separate incident on May 4 last year, he falsely imprisoned ex-girlfriend Linda McCollum and her daughter Megan.

Kieran Galvin, defending, said today when Clifton appeared for sentence that he had refused to co-operate with the probation service in preparing a report to assess dangerousness.

Clifton claimed he did so on legal advice.

Mr Galvin said the offences seemed to be "more about asserting power than anything else" and described it as "glorified bullying".

Judge Gold told him: "Glorified bullying is putting it a little low."

In 2006 Clifton's brother Brett (pictured above right), of Beckett Street, Faversham was jailed for life after Terry and Very Martin were bludgeoned to death in Abbey Street.
