Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford says the county have been sensible with their outlay for their two new overseas arrivals.

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz and South African seamer Charl Langeveldt have joined until at least the end of July and Clifford said: "I wouldn’t say we have gone out on a limb. We have approached it very sensibly.

"In all that we do at the moment in terms of spending the club’s funds, we are prudent – it’s a sensible commitment." He added: "There is a real cost to it, so you have to think about these things hard but I believe it was the right decision to make at the time.

"We want to be competitive in the matches we play. The signings can only help us toward that."
