A world record-breaking attempt has been grounded - for the second time.

Bad weather has foiled Swiss pilot Yves Rossy's bid to be the first man to cross the English Channel with only a single jet-propelled wing strapped to his back.

He was first due to make the attempt on Wednesday - but put it back 24 hours due to a poor weather forecast.

At around 12.35pm today it was announced that it would be put off again.

After the decision, M Rossy said: "I have only got one life, so it's too risky to make the crossing."

He now plans to make a fresh attempt sometime tomorrow.

He is due to jump from a plane more than 3,000 metres above ground over Cap Blanc Nez, fire up the jets on his wing and soar across the Channel at speeds approaching 190kph.

He hopes to complete the crossing in 15 minutes.

It will be broadcast live on the National Geographic Channel, and will also be shown on the internet.
