Joe Denly

Joe Denly's first championship hundred of the season was the highlight of Kent's rain-affected draw against bottom side Leicestershire at Grace Road.

He hit an unbeaten 116 off 194 balls including three sixes and 13 fours as Kent took nine points from the game to stay second in the table, seven points behind leaders Gloucestershire.

They finished on 265-2 in 64 overs when bad light ended play early, replying to the the home side's 403-9 declared. Rain washed out play on the opening two days.

Denly and Geraint Jones, who made 87, added 181 for the second wicket in 39 overs, before the latter was run-out 13 short of his third ton of the season.

Sam Northeast (26) was the other wicket to fall having figured in what statisticians believe is the county's youngest ever opening partnership for around 100 years.

Simon Cook celebrated his seasonal debut in the championship with 5-62, but Leicestershire's total included 53 extras, including 28 no-balls.

Meanwhile, Amjad Khan has made his first appearance of the season in Kent/Northants Combined Second XI friendly against Yorkshire at Beckenham.

He bowled 14 overs having returned earlier than expected, after injuring his right knee on England's winter tour to the West Indies.

His fitness is being monitored by Kent physio Nimmo Reid and ECB Bowling Coach Kevin Shine.
