The left-back was a member of manager Mark Stimson’s 2007 FA Trophy-winning team at Stevenage and has played more minutes than any other squad member for the Gills this term.

"It’s doubly as nice," said the 26-year-old. "There was so much at stake for the club and it was such an important game. We got the win that we deserved.

"It’s better than last time and I can’t put it into words, it’s more of an achievement certainly and it’s fantastic. It’s the best way to go up and we nicked it at the end – I’m buzzing."

Nutter helped the side to their fifth clean sheet in six games. "We have a settled back four and we’ve all done well," he added. "We defended from the front and we’re an organised side now. We’re looking decent and hopefully we can keep that going.

"We were pleased with how we played on Saturday. They had a little spell in the second half but we dug in, stood strong, and got what we deserved."
