Kent skipper Rob Key faces a winter of rehabilitation as he battles back from a wrist injury.

Key has not played since the LV= County Championship match against Middlesex at Canterbury in mid-August and went to see a specialist on Monday for a second opinion.

He now expects to have an operation in the next couple of weeks and admits he is in for a long winter.

"I’ll probably have an operation in a couple of weeks then it will be four or five months trying to get mobility back in it," said Key (pictured). "However, if you are going to have an injury like this it is probably not the worst time to have it."

Key admitted there had not been as many positives as there should have been in Kent’s season.

"Some of the younger guys provided positives such as Matt Coles coming through, Adam Ball playing well and (Daniel) Bell-Drummond looking a good player but a lot of us will think we could have done better."
