A man caught with child sex abuse images on his computer for a second time has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

And a psychiatric report said there was a risk that Mark Royle's fantasies could be 'translated into actions'.

Royle had been jailed for 18 months three years ago and a sexual offences prevent order (SOPO) was imposed banning access to such material.

But the 43-year-old, formerly of Castle Hill, Rochester, was then found to have 45 further images downloaded from the internet at all levels of seriousness from one to five.

Royle admitted making indecent images of children and breaching the order.

Judge Andrew Patience QC told him: "The material is vile - all of it. So long as there are end uses like you prepared to download this material there will be at the other end of the chain indescribable wicked people prepared to abuse children."

The offences were committed, he said, in direct defiance and breach of the SOPO.

"You clearly have the most serious problems, which are fully described in reports," said the judge.

"A psychiatric report identifies a possible risk that sometime in the future your fantasies may be translated into actions."

But he did not find dangerousness under the strict legal definition. It was, however, necessary to protect children from serious sexual harm.

Under a fresh SOPO, Royle, now of no fixed address, was banned from accessing the internet other than for legitimate business or employment and unsupervised contact with children.

He was again placed on the sex offenders’ register.
