The changing of the clocks may have heralded the start of British Summer Time, but anyone hoping for a warm and bright Easter Bank Holiday Weekend may be disappointed.

Kent looks set to be battered by heavy downpours, with weather warnings for strong winds being put in place from today.

Met Office forecasters predict it will be a cold start on Maundy Thursday, with a frost forming.

There will be relief during the day with "dry and bright" conditions, but then heavy downpours will strike overnight.

The deluge will continue into Good Friday, and while the rain will clear for the weekend, a cloud cover will thwart anyone's hopes for a sunny Easter break.

Temperatures will barely make it into double figures over the long weekend, with lows of between 3 and 4 for Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

It is in stark contrast to the unseasonably warm weather experienced over Easter in 2011 - when temperatures rocketed to a record-breaking 27c.

On the other end of the scale, the county was blanketed by snow for the Easter weekend in 2008 - the first white Easter since 1983.
