The campaign against KIG will begin again on Friday.

Maidstone council is launching its latest consultation on the plan to create a 225 acre road-rail freight depot on countryside between Bearsted and Hollingbourne.

It comes after fresh details about the plan were submitted by Kent International Gateway.

Residents will have until February 6 to look at the new details and send their comments to the council.

If there are no more hold-ups, the plan could be debated by the council's planning committee in April. A special meeting will be held in a large venue, in anticipation of large crowds.

The new details submitted by KIG include:

· A report on freight, rail and demand

· Information on alternative sites that have been considered (and rejected)

· Transport information

· Information on the socio-economic impact of the development, including labour supply and employment creation and densities

· A fully detailed tree survey of the entire site

· Impact on watercourses, further bat surveys, a breeding-birds survey, a great crested newt survey, a water vole survey and a habitat balance sheet

· An assessment of the quality of the land within the site

· A health impact assessment

· An outline site security strategy

The council will write to the 2,400 people who sent in comments during the last consultation, making them aware of the new details, which are available on the council's website.

They can also be viewed at the Town Hall, in the High Street, and at the Maidstone Gateway, in King Street.

To comment, write to Steve Clarke, Maidstone House, King Street, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6JQ or by email to KIGcomments@maidstone.gov.uk
