The 500th episode of flagship news programme Kent Tonight will be broadcast on KMTV later.

It comes almost two years after the station launched on July, 8 2017.

It remains the county's only dedicated television channel, delivering quality news, sport and entertainment around the clock.

KMTV is a unique partnership between the University of Kent and KM Media Group, the publisher of this website.

Kent Tonight is an hour-long news programme broadcasting from state-of-the-art studio at the university's Medway campus every week day at 5.30pm.

Unlike other regional news shows, Kent Tonight only focuses on what matters to the county.

KMTV also continues to bring audiences a range of specialist programmes including business show Chris & Co, sports programme Team Talk and Paul on Politics.

News Editor, Andy Richards, said: "Being the size of operation that we are, we have to innovate to make sure that we're at the forefront of everything we do and at the forefront of the industry, so it's been really import for us to look at different types of kit.

"One thing we've learned from our online content and our certainly our partnership with KentOnline is how well user generated content does. Quite often in the past traditional broadcasters were kind of like 'well if the pictures are really compelling we'll use them' so why not take that further?

"Why not encourage more people to have a voice. Not just be at the scene of a police incident or a road transport collision - why not give them a voice and get them to contribute in that way. That's what we want to do with our new app."

You can also watch kmfm Breakfast with Garry and Laura every weekday from 6am as our cameras go behind the scenes in the radio studio.

KMTV is available on Freeview Channel 7 and Virgin Channel 159 or you can watch online.
