ARMED police officers have been stood down after a siege situation in the village of Hawkinge near Folkestone this morning.

It is believed a man was brandishing a knife at an address in Kettle Drive.

It is understood he is a patient at the Arundel unit at the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford. The special police teams, including dog handlers, closed off the area.

The incident started at about 7am and was over by 9.15am.
