Land girl Queenie gets medal

Derek Wyatt presents Queenie with her medal

An Islander has been honoured for the time she spent serving in the Women’s Land Army during World War Two.

Queenie Eldridge, from Bell Farm Lane in Minster, was presented with her badge and certificate for service by Sheppey MP Derek Wyatt.

Eighty five-year-old Queenie served in the Women’s Land Army for four and a half years from 1941 – 1945, in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Queenie had written to Mr Wyatt to ask about the badges, and he replied to say he would like to present them to her.

Queenie said: “They were damn great days – it was beautiful.

“It was hard work, but boy was it good and the friendship was wonderful.”
