Lay-by clamping threat worry

THE parish council in Littlebourne is growing concerned about a contractor who has fenced off a lay-by and threatened to have cars parked there clamped.

Signs have been put up at the lay-by in Nargate Street warning drivers they must buy a parking permit if they do not want their car to be clamped.

But Kent County Council says the area is a public highway and that no one has the authority to charge people to park on it.

Parish councillor Mick Giles says villagers are both baffled and worried about the situation.
