Leon Camier leads the British Superbikes

Leon Camier leads the British Superbike Championship after clinching his first double victory during the second round at Oulton Park on Monday.

The Airwaves Yamaha rider leapfrogged Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli in the rider standings and heads the championship by 11 points.

Camier (pictured right) started race one from pole but lost a few places off the line. He quickly fought his way through to third by the end of the opening lap and took the lead on lap six.

Despite a wet end to the race Camier hung onto his lead and won with just over a second to spare ahead of Karl Harris.

Camier again had a slow start, dropping down to fourth, but three laps later he clawed his way back into the lead to claim Yamaha’s first win double in 11 years.

Camier said: "We really didn’t expect a double win and it feels awesome.

"We knew the Airwaves Yamaha would struggle being down on top speed, but it handled so well. The guys at GSE Racing have done such an amazing job.

"It hasn’t been easy for them so I must say a massive thank you and hope the result pays them back for all their hard work."
