Lightning strikes chimney in town centre

A CHIMNEY stack was struck by a lightning bolt in a Kent town centre during a storm yesterday lunchtime.

The building in Ramsgate High Street was struck shortly before 1pm and the town's fire and rescue service was called to the scene.

Police closed the road as a safety measure, and scaffolding was erected around the structure. Builders made the chimney stack safe.
