Gillingham’s second year scholar Luke Rooney has signed a one year deal with the club.

The goalscoring midfielder played senior football for Blue Square Premier side Lewes this season but has yet to taste first team football for Gillingham.

Rooney (pictured right) has been a regular for the reserves, however, and is top scorer for the under-18s with 12 goals to his name.

Gills boss Mark Stimson said: "Luke is technically a good player, he’s busy, he gets around the pitch and he has an eye for goal.

"We’ll be looking for him to come back in during pre-season and fight for a first team place."
