Maidstone United bid to keep FA Trophy tie against Histon in Kent

Maidstone have appealed for a Kent club to host their FA Trophy first round clash with Blue Square Premier Histon.

The game has been postponed six times because of bad weather and the unplayable surface at Homelands and the FA and Histon have suggested playing at the Cambridgeshire club’s ground.

Joint-boss Lloyd Hume (pictured) said: "We have a few lads who are self-employed, teachers, and a scaffolder who would have to lose money to go up there so I’d end up having to take reserves and youth team players."

Chairman Paul Bowden-Brown added: "We don’t want to give up home advantage and we have come so far.

"If any club or chairman wants to have a big crowd at their ground and take the wet and dry sales from the food and drink, then I’d like to hear from them by the end of the weekend. It could be Sittingbourne, Chatham, Tonbridge or even Gillingham."
