Man accused of Maidstone toilet fires appears in court

Firefighters tackle blazes in Maidstone toilets

A man accused of starting three fires in Maidstone town centre toilets made a brief appearance in court today (Friday).

Luke French, of Stockbury House, Marigold Way, Maidstone, is alleged to have set the fires at The Mall in the Chequers Centre, Sainsbury's in Romney Place and McDonald's in Week Street, all on May 11.

The 20-year-old appeared at Maidstone Crown Court via TV link from Elmley Prison, Sheppey.

He was remanded in custody until July 2, when pleas will be entered to three charges of arson with intent to endanger life
