A man has been arrested after robbers stole a cash box at Asda in Gravesend.

A security guard was injured in the raid, when two balaclava-clad men pounced outside the store in Thames Way at just before 12.30pm yesterday.

They attacked a guard who had just arrived to fill an ATM - before grabbing the cash box and escaping in a red Mini Cooper. It's believed the box containted thousands of pounds.

Police said the car has since been found in Kendall Gardens, Gravesend, and the cash box was recovered in Swanley.

The security guard suffered a bruised wrist as a result of the assault.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A 24-year-old man from Bexleyheath has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
