Man arrested on suspicion of smuggling

A lorry driver has been arrested at the Port of Dover on suspicion of people smuggling.

The 38-year-old man from Romania was stopped at the Port's Eastern Docks at 8.45pm on Friday and officers found eight people in the back of his vehicle.

It's thought he was booked on a ferry heading to Calais.

The arrest by Kent Police and the Port of Dover Police came after they were contacted by a national newspaper.

A man was arrested on suspicion of assisting illegal entry into another EU country. He's been released on bail until August 21.
