Man arrested over Chatham stabbing

Police in Medway have arrested a 39 year old man following an incident in which a 19 year old local man was stabbed.

The arrest followed an incident, which occured in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Chatham.

The injured man alerted a passing patrol car following the incident in the area of Alamein Avenue and Magpie Hall Road.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The 39 year old man was arrested on Tuesday morning. He has not been charged.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have heard two men arguing or fighting in the area of Alamein Avenue between 11.30pm on Monday and 2am on Tuesday.

Kent police's major crime unit is investigating the incident along with local officers and specialists from other departments.

Detective Inspector Gavin Moss from the major crime team said, ''If anyone has any information please contact the police as soon as possible. This is a serious attack on a young man. You can be assured that all information is treated sensitively and confidentially'.
