Police investigating diesel thefts from heavy plant currently questioning a 22-year-old man who was arrested in Chartham on Monday night.

Members of the rural neighbourhood police team found a truck parked in the village that was leaking diesel.

There were large containers of fuel in the rear of the vehicle.

Officers traced the owner and the fuel was identified as red diesel which is used in agricultural machinery and its use strictly restricted in road vehicles.

Working with HM Revenue and Customs the truck and two other vehicles, also found with red diesel in the fuel tanks, were seized.

PC Nick Bell said: “It is particularly relevant that this arrest should happen during Not in my Neighbourhood week which is to demonstrate ways that the police can help local communities to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.”
