Man charged after police officers injured

A man has been released on bail after appearing before magistrates this morning over an incident in which two police officers were injured.

Donovan Goldsmith, of Kingswear Gardens, Strood is charged with attempted common assault, common assault, assault with the intent to resist arrest and actual bodily harm.

The 37-year-old attended Medway Magistrates' Court this morning. After a brief hearing, he was released on bail pending his next court appearance.

Two officers, a man and a woman, were injured while trying to arrest a man following a fight in a pub in the High Street at about 5pm on Sunday.

The male officer was taken to hospital for treatment to severe bruising and the female officer suffered minor injuries and remained on duty.

The area, including Rochester Bridge, was sealed off while officers investigated the incident. The road was reopened at about 7pm.
