Man 'critical' after car smash

A MAN from East Peckham suffered serious head injuries on after his Suzuki Swift car and a stationary refuse wagon were in collision.

The accident happened in Longfield Road, Tunbridge Wells, causing major traffic congestion in the area.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Maidstone General Hospital by air ambulance. He was later transferred to a hospital in London for specialist treatment and is understood to be in a "critical" condition.

Longfield Road was closed to allow access for the rescue helicopter. Temporary traffic lights on nearby Pembury Road were removed in an effort to ease jams.
