A MAN who mistakenly drank liquid glue died in hospital, an inquest heard.

Frank Nottage, of Barnsole Road, Gillingham died on January 4 at Medway Maritime Hospital where he was admitted when he began vomiting blood.

Specialists at a poisons unit were consulted and Mr Nottage seemed to be out of danger until his condition deteriorated rapidly late on January 3.

Arrangements were being made to move him to intensive care but Mr Nottage, a 62-year-old lorry driver, died of a pneumonia before he could be moved.

Records show no blood pressure and temperature checks were taken during the afternoon before his death.

Coroner Roger Sykes said: "There is a regrettable absence of what I would expect to find in the medical records and therefore the time when his condition began to change for the worse has not been established.

"Mr Nottage was also believed to be a man who consumed alcohol to excess. This compromises the body’s ability to fight off infection."

He recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
