Man dies after being hit by train

A man has died after being struck by a train in Whitstable.

Emergency services were called to Chestfield and Swalecliffe station on Saturday evening but the 50-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

It believed he was local to the Whitstable area.

Emma Wiggins, a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson, said: “I can confirm that BTP officers attended the line near to Chesterfield and Swalecliffe station on Saturday, 14 April, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 19:52 London Victoria to Margate service and the line returned to normal service at 10.54pm.
