Armed officers sealed off the road, causing traffic chaos.

A man was arrested as he left the flat just after 3.20pm.

Insp Paul Sellwood, from Kent Police's serious incident unit in Maidstone, thanked everyone in the town for their patience.

He said: "We had to close the road to stop anyone else getting tangled up in it.

"It has caused a lot of chaos in the town centre and I really appreciate the public's patience."
