A YOUNG man was taken to hospital with serious injuries this afternoon following an incident in Institute Road at Chatham.

The road was closed off after police were called there at 1.50pm following reports of a fight. A local man in his 20s has been taken to Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital.

Police could not confirm the exact nature of the man's injuries but witnesses said they thought the man had been stabbed. The road was sealed off by officers at one end at the junction of Chatham High Street and at the other end where a pathway meets the Great Lines.

Police officers made a thorough search of the scene. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to telehone Medway police on 01634 884252.
