A man is set to be interviewed by police after a pensioner was found dead on the A249 near Bobbing.

It comes after police recovered a lorry from France on Friday.

But officers stress the British man they are speaking to has not been arrested. The interview is due to take place at a police station within the county over the coming days.

Alfred Cole was found on the dual carriageway at 2.45am last Wednesday.

The 82-year-old had walked out of a hospital in Ashford, believed to be the Arundel unit of the William Harvey, the day before.

Mr Cole was a resident at Mill House care home in Salters Lane, Faversham, and he went missing from there on Sunday, July 15.

He was safely returned to the home after being found by a member of the public in Cardiff.

But he was reported missing again just days later – this time from the Ashford area.

Officers from the police serious collision investigation unit asked drivers to check their vehicles for signs of an accident.

Witness appeal signs have also been placed at the site.

A post mortem is yet to be carried out to determine the cause of death as Mr Cole’s body is yet to be formally identified.
