Police have carried out road checks in a bid to track down a man who leaned out of a black van and tried to grab a teenage girl as she walked home.

The teenager was in Rochester Road, Burham, at about 7.20pm on Friday September 26, when a black van - containing two men - pulled up alongside her.

The driver leaned out and grabbed her, but the girl managed to break free and run the short distance home.

A week later road checks were carried out in the area in connection with the incident.

Police say the van involved was black and about the size of a minibus with no windows.

The two men were described as black, aged in their 30s and both wearing dark coloured clothing, including hoodies.

Neighbourhood Insp Dave Pate said: “While the two men in the van could have simply been mucking around, their actions were uncalled for. We have carried out inquiries in the area and by carrying out road checks a week later we hoped to speak to people who may have information about the van."

Anyone who recognises the description of the vehicle or saw it in the area, or has information about the two men, should contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Information can also be emailed to appeals.westkent@kent.pnn.police.uk
