CARLEY FURNESS: "He showed no remorse"
PETER ANSCOMBE: the judge told him he was considering a life sentence

A MAN is facing possible life imprisonment for almost killing a 17-year-old girl in a vicious sexual attack.

Health worker Peter Anscombe, 29, pounced on Carley Furness, stabbed her in the stomach and then in the throat and sexually assaulted her, in Priory Gardens, Orpington, last September.

A jury at the Old Bailey on Tuesday found him guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent, sexual assault and common assault on another woman in Bromley town centre.

Judge Morris QC said he was considering a life sentence.

Carley, from Orpington, who is now 18, said after the hearing: "I'm relieved. I'm very happy. The trial has been horrible, awful. I couldn't get it out of my life. It really stuck in my head."

She said she was still angry with Anscombe and added: "He showed no remorse. He just doesn't care."

Anscombe, of Millfields Cottages, Orpington, had regularly masturbated to websites devoted to fictional accounts of sexual violence towards women, the trial heard.

The jury acquitted him of attempting to rape Carley Furness on direction of the judge. They also found him not guilty of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence on his other victim.

The failed to reach a verdict on a charge of attempted murder of Carley Furness and the judge ordered it to lie on file.

Anscombe had denied all the charges. He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey next month, pending a psychiatric report.
