Margate's
proposed sea defences on show

Plans to protect Margate from catastrophic coastal flooding go
on display in the town today.

The £6 million project will significantly reduce the risk of
flooding for homes and businesses in the Old Town area.

The Harbour Arm will be strengthened and a new sea wall, as well
as a series of wide steps jutting out more than 20 metres into the
sea, will be built along the promenade.

The new defences are designed to withstand even the most
ferocious storms.

Experts estimate they will only be breached once every 200
years, compared to once every 20 years at present.

Coastal engineers will be on hand at the Margate Media Centre in
King Street from 2pm-5pm this afternoon to discuss the plans.

A 3D model will remain on display at the centre until Friday,
July 1.
