Gillingham manager Mark Stimson said he had no alternative other than to make six changes from the team that lost at home to Tranmere for the trip to Yeovil.

The Gills were beaten 1-0 by fellow strugglers Tranmere in League 1 at Priestfield on Tuesday night, before securing a goalless draw at Yeovil on Saturday.

Stimson said: "We knew we had to do something because if we didn’t and we performed like against Tranmere we would be in trouble.

"As a manager you can only give players a certain amount of chances.

"Garry Richards came in, having not trained for a long while, Adam Miller has been desperate to play for the last three or four games, and John Nutter only did a light session on Thursday. We gambled on some of them and it paid off.

"I was lower after the Tranmere game than I was at Brentford because there was no spark, or spirit in the performance, and that is something we should have in every single game and training session.

"We were low, but we got over it, and the result at Yeovil has put us back with a clean sheet. Not scoring again is a problem, I know, but we will change that."

Stimson could keep faith with the majority of the team on duty at Yeovil when Bristol Rovers visit Priestfield this Saturday.

New loan signing Chris Dickson will be available while Rene Howe could be fit to return, having been ruled out for a third successive game at Huish Park.

Stimson said: "We will have a good week’s training, and we have got a reserve team game on Wednesday when some will play.

"Whoever is available (against Bristol Rovers) will go out, and repeat the performance at Yeovil, get the home support behind us and get a result."
