“We’re doing well, but we will do better,” was how Ian Johnson, the principal of Ramsgate’s Marlowe Academy, viewed its first Ofsted report.

Three government inspectors visited the academy and spoke to students, parents and teachers.

Mr Johnson said: “We dared to be different in our approach to education and much of what we are achieving is now being looked at closely by other schools around the UK, which is a great testament to everyone involved at the Academy.

“We have come a long way since we opened three years ago. We’re doing well, but we can and we will do better. ”

He stressed that that the academy’s poor showing at GCSE in maths and English was being addressed.
