Ex-Gills striker Mark McCammon could wait weeks to see if his employment tribunal case is upheld against his former club.

The 33-year-old is suing the club for unfair dismissal after being sacked for gross misconduct last year.

The case ended on Friday, but it could be a couple of months before a decision is made.

It comes after Mr McCammon denied leaving an anonymous comment on a news website claiming there was racial hatred within the club.

Mr McCammon was quizzed about the post while giving evidence in his explosive employment tribunal case against the club.

The former Barbados international, who signed for the club in 2008 and was sacked for gross misconduct in 2011, is suing the Gills for unfair dismissal, breach of contract, race victimisation and failure to pay wages.

Witness statements reveal the bitter row came to a head in November 2010 with an extraordinary confrontation with manager Andy Hessenthaler in which the striker accused the then Gills boss and first team coach Nicky Southall of being racist.

The club strongly deny all of the claims. In his submission, Mr Hessenthaler said Mr McCammon’s behaviour was “completely unacceptable” and there was “absolutely no foundation for the allegation of racism”.
