The future of West Malling Farmers' Market may be decided this week.

Traders had feared that this month’s market would be the last to be held in the town's High Street.

But it now seems there is a strong possibility it may be saved.

Tonbridge and Malling council had been intending to investigate the possibility of an alternative market in Water Lane after the company that ran the High Street market went into liquidation.

However, KCC has since offered a two-year break from the charges it makes for closing the road to traffic in order to allow a new market to get off the ground.

At around £7,000 a year the KCC charges had been a major bar to the market’s viability.

The parties interested in taking on the market will meet on Friday to put together a plan.

Cllr Nicolas Heslop (Con), the cabinet measure for community development, has deferred making a decision until after the meeting.
