Meeting to discuss health concerns

Health professionals and local authorites will be meeting in Bromley this evening to discuss responses to the A Picture of Health (APOH) consultation.

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) will be joining other health representatives to discuss feedback over the controversial plans which could see the Princess Royal University in Farnborough become a “hotsite” under NHS plans to expand its services by making cuts elsewhere in south east London.

The RCM are expected to criticise the plans, which also propose closing the maternity unit at the hospital. A response sent to NHS bosses earlier this month said the proposals would “severely constrain” the choices available to Bromley’s pregnant women.

The 17-page response also indicates that the RCM has “significant reservations” about the future of home births, quality of care and midwife-led care in the borough.

Four reps from the RCM will be at the Civic Centre in Bromley from 6.45pm to discuss their concerns face-to-face with APOH staff.

A manager from the Royal College of Nursing and councillors from Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth and Lewisham councils will also be present at the meeting.
