Cray Wanderers' slim hopes of a play-off place in the Ryman League Premier Division are finally over after a 2-0 defeat at home to Lowestoft Town on Tuesday night.

Joe Francis put the Trawlerboys ahead three minutes before half-time at Hayes Lane and Cray's Joe Vines (pictured) was sent-off for the hosts after an off-the-ball incident 15 minutes from time.

Michael Frew condemned Wands to defeat with a second on 85 minutes.

One point from their last three games has sealed Wands' fate, meaning even if they beat Horsham on Saturday, the best they can do is finish eighth.

Margate also lost 2-0 at home to play-off-bound Wealdstone at Hartsdown Park on Tuesday.

Chris Kinear's side conceded twice in the opening half, the first after 13 minutes from Wes Parker and the decisive second coming in stoppage-time, against an in-form side who went fourth.

Gate are 15th but could yet secure a top-half finish with a win over Canvey Island in their season finale on Saturday.
