Mars has been forced to recall some of its most popular chocolate bars amid a salmonella scare.

The Food Standards Agency confirmed the action, which affects seven products, had been taken as a precaution.

They include the Maltesers Teasers Bar (35g), Galaxy Counters (112g pouch and 78g treat bag), Galaxy Milk Bar (42g, 200g, and multipacks) and Galaxy Minstrels (118g Sweet Nights In Promotion pouch).

Several Mars products have been recalled from the UK and Ireland

A statement on the Food Standards Agency website said: "The products listed above might be contaminated with salmonella.

"Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

Customers are advised if they have bought any of the products affected not to eat them and contact the Mars consumer care team on 0800 9520084 or via www.mars.co.uk/contact
