Model year revisions forToyota Avensis

Toyota has updated the Avensis range for 2013 with several specification changes and a naming structure that falls into line with the firm's latest all-new models.

Although outwardly little has changed, the four trim levels have been revised and now start with Active, mirroring that of new models like the Auris. Above Active is Icon, then Icon Plus and Excel. They replace T2, TR, T4 and T Spirit grades respectively.

Two key equipment changes have been highlighted for the new model year. Firstly, all cars from Icon upwards will be fitted with a DAB digital radio tuner as standard.

Better news for buyers of the Active grade is that all levels will gain follow-me-home headlights that can be programmed to remain on for a certain amount of time after the ignition is turned off, lighting the way to an owner's front door.

Active models have steel wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, seven airbags, air conditioning, a CD player, electric front windows and leather steering wheel trim.

Icon, predicted to be the volume seller, adds DAB radio, 17-inch alloy wheels, satellite navigation with a touch-scren media interface and a rear-view reversing camera, cruise control, climate control, electric lumbar support for the driver, electric rear windows and automatic headlights and wipers in what is a fantastically well equipped package.

The Icon Plus adds polish to the impressive spec with an 11-speaker audio system, half-leather upholstery, a unique alloy wheel design, a nickel and wood effect centre console and electrically-folding door mirrors.

Finally, the Excel grade is king of the hill with full black leather seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated front seats with electric adjustment, bi-xenon headlights and additional rear parking sensors. The steering wheel can be adjusted electrically and the sat-nav system is an uprated version.

Prices will start from £19,155 for the Active 1.8 petrol manual saloon, with the key Icon model priced at £22,445 and £23,495 for the saloon and the Tourer estate respectively. Icon Plus asks an extra £1,800, while the most expensive option is the Excel 2.2-litre D-CAT 150 diesel Tourer with an automatic gearbox, with a retail price of £29,895.
