Monster wasps' nest found lurking in loft

It's a whopper! Alan and Ruby Wood with the giant nest.

When a Kent couple saw wasps coming and going from their loft all last summer they didn't quite realise what was being built above their heads.

But it was this - a 3ft by 2ft 6in monster nest made of chewed wood and paper.

Alan Wood, who lives with his wife Ruby at Wittersham, near Tenterden, said: "It's phenomenal, especially when you consider how many times they must have visited it to make it."

The nest, which is now thankfully redundant after the wasps died in the autumn, will be offered to a local school for study.
