FIVE children are without their mother after she was killed at a notorious accident blackspot.

Vanessa Baker, 44, had dropped her husband off at work in Grian, near Rochester, and was driving to play bingo in Strood when her blue Ford Fiesta collided with a Jaguar.

The accident happened on the A228 between Grain and Stoke railway crossing. Mrs Baker's car overturned and rolled into a ditch. She became the 27th person to die on that stretch of road in 10 years.

Mrs Baker was a full-time housewife and lived in Marlborough Road, Gillingham, with husband Steve and their children Andrew, Tracy, Marie, Terry and Inola.

The accident happened last Thursday. The driver of the Jaguar, who escaped unhurt, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
