A free music festival to promote racial harmony is being held at The Command House, Chatham tomorrow, Saturday.

The Medway Love Music Hate Racism Festival is now in its second year.

The organisation behind it was set up in 2002 to celebrate diversity and involve people in anti-racist and anti-fascist activities.

The festival will feature a mix of traditional, modern and popular music.

The line-up includes Medway indie band The Long Weekend, folk three-piece The Singing Loins, the UK’s youngest operatic baritone Matthew Crane and former Drifters star Jahson.

The event also includes African drumming from Usifu Jalloh, the Munroe Gospel Choir, juggling and circus acts and street dancers.

Visitors will also get the chance to try food from around the world and have a music session of their own in the jam tent.

There will be face-painting for children and complementary therapies on offer.

Event organiser Naeem Lone, said: “Love Music Hate Racism is all about using music to unite the community.

“There will be music to suit all tastes.”

The Command House is in Dock Road, Chatham, and the event runs from 1pm to 10pm.
