Quad bikers causing havoc in a Herne Bay nature reserve fled after police were alerted by a neighbour.

The youngsters ran off and abandoned the bike when officers arrived at Curtis Wood Park in Herne.

The police had been called by local Graham Jackson, who feared someone could get hurt.

Canterbury city council’s countryside officer Dan Binfield said: “We’re very grateful to Mr Jackson for alerting the police so quickly, and equally appreciative of the police for arriving at the park before any damage was caused.

“Hopefully this will deter other quad bikers from making an appearance and we can continue to protect the area.”

Inspector Terry Chuter also praised Mr Jackson’s actions, saying: "This gentleman did exactly the right thing and informed the police right away with useful information about the quad bike.

"We had a team working in the area and were able to respond quickly and take further action that led to the bike being seized."
